Abby Stasko
Graduate Student
Abby Stasko is a graduate student helping the Burke Center with our Turtle-Flambeau Flowage project. Abby graduated from Northland College in 2023 with a double major in biology and natural resources with an emphasis on ecological restoration. She is now pursuing a master’s degree in biology at Grand Valley State University in Michigan, where Burke Center affiliated scientist Dr. Sarah Johnson is serving as her advisor.
Abby has worked on long-term monitoring projects in a variety of ecosystems, especially wetlands. Past projects have included the ‘Plant Watch’ monitoring program at Northland College, and coastal wetland plant surveys in the Kakagon-Bad River Sloughs. Before attending grad school, she worked at the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore, looking at sandscapes and coastal wetland systems. She is very interested in how invasive species can impact an ecosystem. Most of her research experience revolves around plants and she is very excited to expand her interests and expertise with the Burke Center. In her spare time, Abby loves to read, go on hikes and bike rides, spend time with her friends and her new puppy, Goose.
