Great Lakes Nearshore Ecology

Nearshore areas throughout the Laurentian Great Lakes are among the most socioeconomically important, ecologically significant, and least understood of all freshwater ecosystems.

Our work focuses on the study of Chequamegon Bay, the Apostle Islands archipelago, and other nearshore areas of Lake Superior to characterize the fundamental environmental processes that shape these critical ecosystems.

Our work focuses on integrating approaches from the natural and social sciences to develop management plans for freshwater and terrestrial ecosystems, as well as implementing restoration projects to restore and enhance the natural functions of these ecosystems.
