George Shinners

Board Vice-Chair

A native of Green Bay, George is a highly successful international entrepreneur and thought leader on recycling concrete pavement to make more sustainable highways and airport pavements around the world. Between 1982 and 2025 his companies have recycled more than 353 million square yards of concrete pavement beginning in the United States and Canada and expanding into Europe, the Caribbean, Central and South America and Asia. He has established several companies in the United States and Europe focused on pavement recycling and rehabilitation techniques. Most people assume he has an engineering degree, but he is a proud Letters & Science graduate with a bachelor's degree in Psychology (1961) and a master's degree in Industrial Relations (1964) -both from the University of Wisconsin -Madison.. He and his wife Jane are longtime residents of Antigo.

 

George has served on a number of boards throughout his career, including the Langlade County Board, City of Antigo Police and Fire Commission, Antigo United School District, Antigo Area Recreation Foundation, the Antigo Youth Hockey Association, the Antigo Area Chamber of Commerce, and The Nature Conservancy's Wisconsin Chapter. He currently serves on the UW-Madison College of Letters and Sciences Board of Visitors and formerly served on the UW-Madison Pathways to Excellence Board, and the Senior Center of Langlade County Board. He is a lifetime member of the UW-Madison Alumni Association, and a member of the Wisconsin Forest History Association. He is the father of five sons, 15 grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
