The Northwest Regional Planning Commission and Burke Center for Ecosystem Research recently received more than $240,000 in combined funding from the Wisconsin Coastal Management Program.

Burke Center representatives will use $189,000 to evaluate the performance of its bluff stabilization and sediment production projects at North Fish Creek. The Burke Center’s long-term restoration project at the creek has prevented an estimated 7,800 tons of sediment from flowing into Lake Superior’s Chequamegon Bay annually, helping to protect fish habitat and improving water quality in the bay, according to the center’s website.
